Alaska’s Hunt for Oil

Author's Note: I wrote about the debate in Alaska deciding if the US should drill for oil there because I do not want them to drill there and wanted to tell people why they shouldn't.

The Alaskans should defend and keep their land safe from the drillers searching for oil. It is their land and they should protect it and not let drillers destroy the wildlife. Many animals such as polar bears, black bears, grizzlies bear, wolves, caribou, seals, whales, and plenty more animals would get kicked out of their homes and be forced to live somewhere else. Imagine having random strangers come to your house and just kick you out and say it’s theirs now and leave you to go find a new house.

There is a big debate whether we should drill in Alaska or not. The ANWR which stands for Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is the land that protects and lets the animals breed and repopulate the earth. Many natives do not want to have them because they think Alaska would get no profit out of the oil and just destroy the land. It would be a bad plan to drill in the Arctic Refuge because it would take up almost 20 million acres of wildlife land.

Scientist have researched and found that if they drilled in the refuge they would only gain 4% of imports. From all that work and destruction of the wildlife we would roughly get six months worth of oil. Six months isn’t worth the demolition of the ANWR. If they started to drill in the Arctic Refuge that means they would have to bring in so much equipment through the land which means ripping up the small trees and luscious grass. Also studies show that if they drill there will be massive loads of sludge and grime wandering threw the majestic fields in Alaska.

Some Scientist have said that there is a good chance of what happened in the Gulf of Mexico with the oil spill, another catastrophe. In this disaster eleven people died, 26,000 marine mammals, and almost 81,000 birds were killed or damaged in the spill. That could happen in Alaska but even more mammals and birds have a higher chance to get injured or at the worst killed.

We should stop and protect the land from the people from drilling in Alaska. Most people will not like the fact that we are ruining an amazing state for such a little income. The animals deserve this land and not be taken away like we have done a lot already. The state of Alaska is a gorgeous place and should be kept for the animals to reproduce and live in peace.

The Loyal Samurai

Author's Note: I wrote about samurais because people should follow their actions. They are great role models if you look what they do good such as loyalty, honesty, and respect everyone.

In the book Warriors by Jim Eldridge really specified why samurai’s follow their code of honor so well. There were two kinds of samurais, one was a samurai who was trained to kill and hunt down people. The other one was a samurai who was just learning from his master to fight and handle a sword. They were sneaky warriors in the night that when told by their master to kill someone did it quiet and without anyone knowing. Samurai’s were the most loyal and brave warriors of the late 1800’s.

Samurais were so loyal because in 1800’s war was breaking out in Japan so the leader Toyotomi Hideyoshi went to the villages and collected a lot of the farmers and made an extremely strict caste system and made them follow his every command. He made all the farmers decide between the life on the farm or a strong brave warrior that would fight for him. Also he made a law that samurais were the only people who were allowed to arm themselves with a sword. Samurai’s without masters were called ronins which caused some trouble in the Edo Period.

Bushido was the name of the samurai’s code of honor which meant “Way of the Warrior”, that was the way of their life. One reason why the samurai were so strong was because their masters would train them to be mentally and physically tough. Another reason is because masters stress their students to know that they need to have loyalty, wisdom and honor until death. A lot of people these days have forgotten and don’t use those great skills we can use every day. On the other hand many people still apply those great qualities. Employees usually and if they don’t should use these quality’s for their work to respect their boss.

The fearless samurai was trained by its master to be loyal, honest, and to follow their code of honor. These days there are not many samurais anymore because we have evolved into better technology such as guns, electronics, and social skills. Although samurais were feared deeply people can learn a lot from the samurais. The bravest, strongest, and most skilled warriors of the 1800’s were the samurais.

Through Tim Tebow’s Eyes

He was a nervous wreck all week in New York. The next day though was the time he would make it or break it. When he got to the theater he was greeted by hundreds of Gator’s fans. The candidates sat in the front row waited patiently and intensely to hear the winner of the Heisman trophy. Tim Tebow was always told he could never succeed in his sports, but all that did to him was made him work harder. Readers will know why Tim Tebow worked so hard and became so victorious.
Tim was always told he could never be good at sports but the author Nathan Whitaker really described how Tim Tebow worked so much harder than the other players. One of the reasons he improved so much more than the other kids is that him and his brothers would constantly play sports even if none of them played that sport. He was the youngest out of his brothers so it would be a harder challenge for him as he played the sports. His parents always believed in him and pushed him to be his best. When it was his time to shine and show everyone that he could be successful he did just that. He started to be the greatest athlete in his school by playing a lot of sports and becoming so good at them.
Tebow became a top pick to go into college for his speed and strength and ability to throw the ball. Florida picked him up for from Nease High School to get in and play right away. He wanted to show everyone that he could succeed and prove all the people that doubted him that he could do it. In his career in Florida he won the Heisman in 2007 and also won two championships one in 2007 and the other in 2009. In the 2010 NFL Draft Tim was drafted 25th pick overall to the Denver Broncos. Denver didn’t know if they wanted to play him the first year so they didn’t instead they played the more experienced quarterback. When it was his time to play he made the most of it and took the Broncos to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
The Tebow’s were always and still to this day a very hard working and a motivating family. Mrs. and Mr. Tebow helped Tim so much by encouraging him and telling him not to listen to everyone and their comments about how he couldn’t make college or even professional football. All the people that tried to bring him down and make him quit only made him work harder and get to college and the NFL. Tim work really hard to be successful and that’s exactly what he did by leading his team into two BCS championships and becoming a NFL quarterback.

Inspirations of MJ

One of many Michael Jordan’s quote isI play to win, whether during practice or a real game. And I will not let anything get in the way of me and my competitive enthusiasm to win.” That quote is one of my favorite one from him because it’s just like me. When he says he will always try to win that’s how I feel when I play basketball. Michael Jordan was a great player maybe one of the best. He could dunk, shoot, pass; defend, block, and many more. He was always the best basketball player when he as younger but when he stopped working hard other kids that worked hard and tried out for the high school team he didn’t make the team. He was so disappointed that he thought he was just going to give up basketball forever, but he didn’t. He worked super hard all day every day. He never stopped practicing and when it came to the next years tryouts he made it without a doubt. He played astonishing that season and furthermore. After he was drafted 3rd out of the college of North Carolina, Michael was a top pick for the NBA. Michael Jordan was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1984. M.J. won 6 championships as a Bull and was voted MVP 5 times. Michael had 32,292 points in his whole career. When I grow up I would want to play in the NBA and win a title for my team. Michael Jordan is a great leader and a role model. He is mine and many others role model.

Big Blue Basketball

Authors Note: I thought like I didn't have a lot of information to give of the people, but I mostly wrote about it because Kentucky is my favorite NCAA basketball team.

The Kentucky Wildcats have won many champions in their seasons. They have always had excellent players come in and out of the University and move onto the NBA. In the 2011- 12 the Wildcats started the season great as ranked number 3 but as the season went on they went all the way up to number 1. When Kentucky played Indiana and all threw the game was a really tough game. At the last seconds Indiana chucked up a three and just got it to fall. That lost took them down to the 2nd place with only one lost. The Wildcats have beat a many other teams but has a lot more to go. In the NCAA Tournament Kentucky will go far into the tournament and will get as far as into the Final Four and possibly go to the Championship. The Wildcats could just easily win because their team is so stacked with good players. Three of their starters are freshman but yet they are some of the best. Anthony Davis is a strong candidate for defensive player of the year. Anthony has the most blocks in the NCAA this year Michael Kidd-Gilchrist an excellent offensive with an average of 14.4 points. Last the last freshman is Marquis Teague as there point guard but he’s not one of their top scorers but he’s still growing to be a better player.

The Michael Jordan Poster

There I was Michael in a dark lonely box rolled up like a sushi roll. When all of a sudden I heard someone pick my box and I up and started attaching a paper substance over the box. It was a long wait until anything happened to me. One day I was picked up and the paper was unraveled it when finally light creeping into the box as I saw a teenager named Kevin glimmering eyes peek into the box. He was so happy he got such a great Derrick Rose poster like me. That same day he went to his bedroom and put me up on the wall. I never felt so good stretching out on that wall.  That night I could hear the crickets chirping and the owls hooting.
In the morning Kevin's mom came up to wake him up but it took him a while to actually get up. When he finally dragged himself out of bed his mom had made him a big nice breakfast. Living at the Durant's house is the best. I always inspire Kevin to be a better basketball player and a better person, it feels like I am just talking with him whenever he looks at me. One day Kevin got some other posters like LeBron James, Chris Paul, and Kobe Bryant. They were all so nice and we all loved to talk. One day Kevin packed us up in another box and we weren’t opened for a long time but when we were we knew we had a new home.
